my favorite kind. gyro meat. I love it. do you think it is worse than, say, meat in general?
better or worse than spam?
vienna sausages?
what is "mechanically separated" meats?
dried beef in a jar?
"deviled" meats? I mean what the hell is that?
what are these things?

Re: your processed meats
Mon, February 28, 2005 - 4:26 PMGyros can be anywhere from 0-100% beef, 0-100% lamb, plus an unknown
amount of fillers, plus a small amount of spices. The question is
how much filler this particular brand has. It can be from zero to
plenty. While a guess of 0 carbs works for most brands, it does
not work for all brands.
they all have a ton of salt -

Mon, February 28, 2005 - 10:12 PMyum. Gyros.
wonder if they make some kind of vegetarian Gyro-like substance.
weird mechanically processed meats=scary
of course that hasn't kept me from eating them
I find it easier to be a vegetarian again every day
Now, mostly i eat weird mechanically processed vegetable protein molded in the shape of processed meat. Ahem.

Re: your processed meats
Thu, March 3, 2005 - 11:57 PMAnyone ever read Upton Sinclair's "the Jungle"? The idea of potted meat brings that book to mind. The books depiction of it is downright greusome.
Supposedly times are better than then, but still pretty bad what with all the growth hormones and genetic engineering.
There was some rumor that the reason Kentucky Fried Chicken changed it's name to KFC was the the chickens they use are so modified they no longer qualify as chickens.
I have nothing to back this up..just a silly rumor I heard.
My friends and I started calling the place Kentucky Fried Creature...(didn't stop us from eating there)--well I've stopped....
Another running joke of ours is that the Jack in the Box Chicken Monster Taco to be made from geneticlly modified Chicken Monsters.
Speaking of processed meats...what is the stuff they put in Jack in the Box tacos? Meat flavored soy protein?
Does anyone know for sure?

Re: your processed meats
Fri, March 4, 2005 - 11:50 AMthey usually use the lowest grade of beef for fast food mix it with soy and add flavor so it tastes passable.
if you ever have bitten into a fast food burger vs. one you made at home and know how a soy burger or chick patty feels in your mouth...well you can tell for yourself that its mixed.
